Crockett Tavern Museum

The Crockett Tavern Museum is located on the site of the Old Crockett Tavern, which Davy Crockett's father John built in 1794. A log cabin was constructed on the tavern property, which remains on its original site. John Crockett and his family lived there until their deaths in 1817 and 1818, respectively. The museum is about one mile northwest of downtown Morristown. Learn more about East Tennessee here

The museum opened in 1958 as a National Register of Historic Places site, with a small collection of artifacts from the early 1800s. In 1979, it was expanded with a new building designed by architect Charles J. Armentano, who also designed Memphis' city hall and the University of Memphis' main building (now called "Hudson Hall"). In 1988, it moved to its present location at 515 East Pleasant Street in Morristown for better parking and accessibility for future expansion plans. The current building is open to visitors during regular museum hours; however, special events are held at night when it opens up as an attraction full time. Browse this site
